We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Ashley Hill Carpentry on a unique and rewarding project involving the restoration of a historic gatehouse. The original roof, made from concrete tiles, had deteriorated over time, with a failing timber structure that was no longer fit for purpose. Working closely together, we carefully stripped back the existing materials and rebuilt the entire roof structure from scratch, ensuring it was both structurally sound and visually in keeping with the original building.
To retain the charm and authenticity of the gatehouse, we chose to finish the project using traditional reclaimed clay Double Roman tiles. These were specifically selected to match an old photograph of the gatehouse in its former glory, helping to preserve the building’s heritage and blend seamlessly with its surroundings. Attention to detail was key throughout, from the timber work to the finishing touches, and we’re proud of the transformation so far.
